Accountability and Transparency

Independence Township (the "Township") takes pride in providing residents, businesses, and visitors with financial and economic data that helps to measure both the fiscal stability and the quality of life within the Township.  Although much of this information has always been included within the Township's audited financial statements, it is now displayed in an interactive web site sponsored by the State of Michigan's Department of Treasury.  The MI Community Financial Dashboard is designed to provide readers with easy-to-use, visual data for the Township as well as other Michigan communities.

Additional links below present the performance dashboard, the current outstanding debt of the Township, the Board-approved 2017 and 2018 budgets, and the last five years of the Township's audited financial statements.

By committing to a high level of accountability and transparency standards, the Township will continue to receive additional state shared revenue ("CVTRS" / "City/Village/Township Revenue Sharing") in an amount of approximately $90,000 per year.

The Township, in accordance with Public Act 530 of 2016, has also published its retirement system summary annual report as well as the latest copy of both the Pension Annual Actuarial Valuation and the Other Post-Employment Benefit Actuarial Valuation.
